Quick Facts About Our San Diego Public Sailing Charters
San Diego is the perfect place to take a sunset sail, with one of the most spectacular natural harbors in the world. The weather is regularly perfect, with sunny skies and nice afternoon breezes. Here are some quick facts on our San Diego ‘Public’ sailing charters. We offer a hands-on experience with every sail, BUT you do not ‘have’ to do anything but relax and enjoy if you wish. You can simply call our 800 number to make your reservation in one process, or you can submit your request on-line and we’ll proactively call you to gather payment and confirm. We will send you an email confirmation every time. NO sailing experience is necessary. Even when you find yourself offered a ‘race’ opportunity there is no more or no less that you have to do, nor more experience necessary to be with us on a ‘race’. The activity remains the same on each vessel as if you were just out with one yacht. What the race does is to DOUBLE the excitement and the visual pleasure of this “once in a lifetime” opportunity. Bring your camera! We will have soda & water on all trips. If you’d like to BYO adult beverage please restrict it to canned beer, bottled wine & plastic cups. Bring snacks or a lunch if you wish….easy-to-eat hand held food is best. You should not get wet on any of our trips, so please feel free to bring the camera, video recorder….and simply dress for the weather on the day. Soft shoes is all that we ask…just so you don’t slip. Whether you are on one of the race yachts or the larger ‘America’, the smooth waters of San Diego Bay are the perfect place to see the sun set over Pt. Loma behind you followed by the dazzling light display on the windows of San Diego’s downtown office buildings. The race yachts do not operate after sunset. The ‘America’ operates day & night. We delight in giving you the ultimate experience of a traditional America’s Cup match race whenever we can. Most of the year we operate 4 days each week and typically the weekends are our busiest days. If we can fill one yacht with near 20 guests we will add the 2nd yacht to the schedule to try to get that ‘race’ under way. Ultimately on these days the skippers at the dock will try to balance the guest load evenly between the two yachts. You are typically going to be the fastest yacht on the bay which means plenty of action as you tack from the shore quite often. There are also other yachts to look out for and maneuver through. This is all great entertainment We do not operate the ‘race’ yachts on the ocean. The bay provides these perfect ingredients for all of our guests: No waves = No seasickness, No wet guests (Our water is always a little cool) No waves = No broken boats Great Breeze – the breeze through the bay is always more consistent and reliable than on the ocean = great sailing More entertainment – that tacking from the shore and other boats is better than a long run out / long run back with little to do = more fun for you We have the only “pair” of these yachts in America…so don’t let the opportunity to race pass you by. Bragging rights are key here. Guests can participate in about 80% of the running of the yacht/s. There are just a couple of jobs that you’d prefer we leave to the professionals.
