Father's Day Aboard Yacht America, June 20 & 21, 2009
That special day of the year for the Dad's of the world just became a little more special for some with the announcement that Dennis Conner's famous yacht "America" will operate out of the "Maritime Museum of San Diego" twice a day on Father's Day weekend. "That's right"...said Warren Allan, Director of Sales & Marketing for the famous yacht. "The Maritime Museum has a great family atmosphere, a wonderful family membership base for locals, and a wealth of amazing nautical history for visiting Dad's and families as well.
AMERICA - This magnificent sailing vessel is a replica of the 139-foot yacht (AMERICA) that won the historic, Royal Yacht Squadron's "100 Guinea Cup" race around the Isle of Wight. The trophy was donated to the New York Yacht Club to be held as a challenge trophy, which came to be known as the America's Cup. The original AMERICA Low Black Schooner was designed by a young genius who combined the best of Old World theory and New World practicality. Her later career was equally as colorful - conveyor of secret agents, Confederate blockade runner, Union warship, Naval Academy training vessel, and pride and joy of a famous Civil War general and politician. By her end in 1945, she was one of the most honored vessels in the United States. Our AMERICA is a replica that was built in 1995 at a cost of more than $6 million. At 139 luxurious and awesome feet in length, and capable of hosting up to 80 guests, she is a treat for anybody aboard her. AMERICA is available for the following events
